Sir Edmund Hillary’s Lasting Legacy Inspires A New, High-End Outdoor Clothing Label
Sir Edmund Hillary was a man associated with firsts, not the least of which was his celebrated climb to the zenith of Mt. Everest in 1953. Over the years, Hillary’s legacy has been defined by his many good works and the many notable adventure addicts who have followed in his footsteps. Fittingly, August saw the arrival of another tribute to the man who may not have put Mt. Everest on the map, but most certainly made the dream of scaling it a reality.
The Edmund Hillary Collection, a new, high-end outdoor clothing label, launched at New Zealand Fashion Week this month with a 25-piece collection that was singularly inspired by the garments that the iconic mountaineer wore on his famous 1953 expedition.
The brainchild of Sir Edmund’s son Peter and co-founder, Mike Hall-Taylor, the collection has been designed to inspire the adventurer and capture the essence of Sir Edmund in every one of its individually crafted products. Included among those products is a replica of the blue anorak worn by Sir Ed when he climbed Mt Everest as well as exact copies of his vests and hand-knitted sweaters (updated to reflect modern style and functionality, of course).
Does it get any more authentic than that?
Moreover, in keeping with Sir Edmund’s legendarily charitable spirit, approximately 2 per cent of each sale from the collection will benefit schools in the Himalayas and outdoor education programs in countries where the range is made and sold.
So whether you expect to be climbing mountains or simply hitting the slopes in your favorite ski destinations this winter, the Sir Edmund Hillary collection offers a new, and very conversation worthy, option for your outdoor adventure attire.
